On October 11, the "Special Session of the 16th Innovation Development Forum and the 4th International Conference on Energy and Power Engineering" was successfully held in Dalian. The event was co-hosted by China Science Daily and Dalian University of Technology, organized by Guangdong Academy of Aisi Information Academic Exchange, and supported by ScienceNet and Aisikeland. As one of the special sessions of the 16th Innovation Development Forum, the session was themed "Future Prospects of Energy and Power Engineering," focusing on the critical role of energy and power engineering in modern technology and industry, as well as its interdisciplinary frontiers. The aim was to offer insights and recommendations for achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and accelerating the development of new productive forces. Experts and scholars from Dalian University of Technology, the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), and other institutions attended the conference.
Opening Adress | Wang Weizuo, Deputy Party Secretary of China Science Daily
Wang Weizuo, Deputy Party Secretary of China Science Daily, extended a warm welcome to all attendees in his opening address. He noted that energy is a fundamental driver of human societal progress and that energy security is critical to the overall economic and social development. He highlighted the global importance of achieving safe, clean, efficient storage, conversion, and utilization of energy. He expressed the hope that the forum would serve as a platform for scientists to share research findings, academic ideas, and practical experiences in depth.
Opening Adress | Prof. Han Yi, Dalian University of Technology
Han Yi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department of Dalian University of Technology, stated in his address that Dalian University of Technology has a long-standing and solid foundation in the field of energy and power engineering. He noted that the discipline is currently facing significant strategic opportunities, making the forum particularly timely. He looked forward to in-depth exchanges among experts and scholars, building consensus, and generating high-quality intellectual outputs to jointly advance disciplinary development and industrial progress.
Prof. Yongfang Li, CAS Academician, Institute of Chemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences
During the keynote session, Li Yongfang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a talk titled "Narrow-Bandgap Organic Acceptor Photovoltaic Materials," drawing on the inexhaustible resource of solar energy. He systematically presented recent research progress on narrow-bandgap small-molecule acceptor materials for polymer solar cells and narrow-bandgap organic interlayer perovskite/organic tandem solar cells. He also discussed future potential and directions for improving photoelectric conversion efficiency and promoting industrial applications in this field.
Prof. Wanlin Guo, CAS Academician, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics
Guo Wanlin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, gave a talk titled "Intelligence-Energy Synergy: Creating the Future." He explored how deep integration of "intelligence" and "energy" could lead to a new paradigm for future industrial development. Using the hydrovoltaic effect as an example, he introduced his team's progress in harnessing electrical energy from the natural water cycle and further projected the trend toward integrated intelligence–material–energy synergy.

Prof. Mingming Zhang, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen
Zhang Mingming, professor at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), presented a report titled "AI-Empowered Research and Application of Wind Energy Utilization Technologies." He discussed the current state of wind power development in China and explored the integration of artificial intelligence technologies in the wind energy sector. He shared insights into how digital twins, big data, cloud computing, 5G, and the Internet of Things can further advance research in intelligent wind power forecasting, wind farm siting optimization, and cluster operation and maintenance management.

The Innovation Development Forum was jointly initiated by China Science Daily and the China Center of Advanced Science and Technology in 2010, with Nobel Laureate in Physics Tsung-Dao Lee serving as its first chair. The forum has long focused on cutting-edge scientific issues and has been successfully held for sixteen sessions, establishing itself as an important platform in China’s scientific exchange landscape.
The conference concluded successfully at 4:00 PM on October 11. In the closing session, presiding chair Professor Zhang Mingming once again thanked all the speakers, participants, and organizing staff for their hard work and wished everyone a fulfilling and pleasant weekend in Dalian. The conference not only provided a high-level platform for scholars to present research results and stimulate innovative thinking but also further promoted international academic exchange and industry–university–research collaboration, injecting new momentum into sustainable development in related fields.
